Carton Sealer Packaging Equipment

The carton sealer comes in a variety of models, types, sizes, and technologies, a fact which suits it well for a wide range of case sealing applications, including hot melt case sealing and various types of tape sealing. One type is the random tape sealer, which accommodates various carton sizes that can be operator-fed in any order or combination, providing greater flexibility for production environments that don’t yield uniform package sizes. Case sealing machinery has a broad variation in capability, with each model representing a different combination of specifications, such as carton-per-hour (or carton-per-minute) sealing capacity and the range of dimensions of the carton(s) that the equipment can process. Some systems also combine case erector and sealer functions into a single operation carried out by a single machine unit, increasing efficiency and maximizing space.

Some machine options are top-only hot melt or hot and cold glue systems, bottom-taping systems, and top-and-bottom case tapers, which apply glue or tape to package flaps either before or after folding (depending on the type of sealing) and L-clip machine types which apply a narrow piece of L-shaped tape to lidded boxes, providing safe and secure closure for these less conventional box types.

Sealing Equipment Features

Some carton sealer machine types allow modifications to the conveyor and limit switch to facilitate faster case movement, thereby speeding up production. Many also offer a case pass-through option for greater flexibility. Some case sealers can be washed down inline, which makes them particularly appropriate for applications that require a more sanitary environment. Others offer a built-in power-saver mode which allows them to hibernate when not in use, automatically restarting when case flow resumes. This automated and sometimes semi-automated equipment is quite sophisticated, with each machine type offering a variety of state-of-the-art features that are appropriate to each specific application which is required for a particular company’s unique packaging needs. One important feature that high-volume operations in particular will want to insist upon in their case sealing equipment is fast and easy case change so that changeover between various production runs is smooth, seamless, and efficient and idle time is drastically reduced.

Applications and Industries Requiring Carton Sealer Technology

Products as varied as nuts, baking powder, wine, frozen hamburger patties, canned cat food, and virtually all other canned, boxed, bagged, and otherwise-packaged goods utilize carton sealer technology, as do dry goods, household products, and a wide range of other non-food items. In short, any product that requires a box for shipment will of necessity also require the sealing of that box prior to shipping, the only difference being that different product types have varying requirements as to the best type of sealing for the purpose. Consequently, virtually every industry imaginable can make good use of case sealing equipment.
