Packaging with Stretch Wrapping Machines
Choosing the most appropriate model from among the wide variety of stretch wrapping machines available is critical to keeping a company’s packaging operation efficient, its loads stable, and its shipments secure and damage-free. Because these machines feature varying degrees of automation, business owners have a great deal of flexibility in selecting the machine type that will best meet their packaging needs. Careful examination of each machine’s specs will reveal which model should provide the greatest benefit for a particular company or industry. Some factors that affect this determination are size of the operation (level of production); physical dimensions, weight, value, and fragility of the product to be wrapped; production, packaging, and shipping quotas and schedules that must be met; and conditions to which the load might be exposed during shipping. Heritage Pioneer can offer valuable guidance in equipment selection based on its many years of experience in the packaging industry. HP can also assist companies in installing, utilizing, maintaining, and repairing the various wrapper types currently on the market.
General Wrapper Categories and Machine Types
Stretch wrapping machines fall into four basic categories: turntable, rotary arm, horizontal, and rotary ring types. Most are available in either semi- or fully automatic machine styles to accommodate the production needs of each company within a wide range of industries. Aside from providing partial or full automation, turntable machines also come in high- and low-profile types for greater flexibility and ease of pallet on- and off-loading. In addition, they offer single- and dual-turntable designs to allow for normal to high productivity wrapping rates. Some bases built onto turntable machines are standard types, for normal loads and average wrapping conditions; octagonal, for loading areas with minimal space; split base, for times when extra room is needed between turntable and tower; and oversized, for bigger-than-average loads. Rotary arm stretch wrapping machines can be free standing, column mounted, or self supporting (featuring three- or four-legged varieties) and also come in conveyorized and non-conveyorized models. These options provide real versatility in selecting the right model for the particular job. Horizontal wrappers work well for items that lie flat, such as doors, windows, and lumber; and, rotary ring wrappers are well-suited for banding and split wrapping jobs.
Stretch Wrapping Machines Meet Varied Industry Needs
Many diverse industries use automated or semi-automated wrapping equipment, including the automotive, construction, pharmaceutical, printing, steel, paint, and furniture industries. Because every industry’s load type, size, weight, and configuration is unique, each has specific requirements that dictate its need for individualized features in the machinery it uses to wrap its loads. While every piece of wrapping equipment is carefully engineered to effectively fulfill its specialized function, its sophisticated features can be further fine-tuned through adjustments to its control settings enabling individual companies in numerous industries to achieve optimal results.
