Plastic Bag Sealer Packaging Solutions

Plastic Bag Sealer Options Offer a Multitude of Choices for Plastic Packaging

Plastic bag sealer technology is fairly simple, but many options can be found for retail and industrial use. Regardless of the plastic bag sealing application, a sealer is available to fit any budget, line speed, degree of portability, and width and style of bag. Devices are engineered to achieve varying degrees of automation. The simplest variety is a hand held sealer, completely portable and particularly useful for smaller sized bags. For faster sealing of a larger range of sizes, a floor, or foot operated, pedestal model is frequently used. It allows the packaging operator to keep both hands free while bags pass through his or her packaging station. Semi automatic or fully automatic sealers offer the greatest speed and versatility. They can be configured to run at a continuous interval, or activated on demand for intermittent sealing. To ensure peak performance, Teflon strips and cutting blades should be replaced on a regular basis, with the frequency depending on the volume of sealing cycles. Periodic, routine maintenance is straightforward and is almost always handled by the in house maintenance team.

Applications

Polyethylene bags tubing are the primary materials used in conjunction with a plastic bag sealer. The size, width, thickness, and grade of film largely determine the appropriate sealer specifications. In all cases, the seal bar must extend at least slightly beyond of the widest poly bag to be sealed. Seal bar length options range from a 4" wide sealing capacity to in excess of a 20" sealing capacity. Besides the length of the seal to be applied, seal width must be considered carefully. The wider the seal, the greater the seal strength, and wide seals are appropriate for containing heavy and / or expensive products, as well as bags that undergo stress in transit or handling. In addition, wide seals are far more secure and are a necessity for the packaging of products that cannot risk exposure to contamination. Sealer widths run as narrow as 2mm and as wide as 12mm. For polyethylene tubing, sealers include a cutter, which separates the formed bag from the roll of tubing. Specially engineered sealers are available for the application of double seals and the sealing of polypropylene, other plastics, and laminates. For corrosive plant environments, stainless steel plastic bag sealer models are ideal.

How to Select a Plastic Bag Sealer

The most important factors to consider are characteristics of the products being bagged and how the bag will be shipped, handled, and stored. Volume on the packaging line must also be weighed. A sealer may be designed for light, medium, or heavy volume use. The chosen sealer must be durable enough for the application at hand. Otherwise, parts will fail during use and lead to excessive maintenance and possibly down time, which is extremely costly. With decades of experience in plastic packaging, Heritage Pioneer can help select the right sealer for industrial and retail sealing applications.
